Review of David Petrie's Blog
Blog Reviewed
I had a cursory read of this blogger's post, who have great insights into teaching that inspired me. If you are interested in his blog, maybe you can explore more here: https://teflgeek.net
Organization and Layout
The organization of the text is generally clear. First, the subheadings used in some articles guide and summarize the content of each section. Secondly, blogger paragraphs according to the content with indicated topic sentences at the beginning of each paragraph. Also, the structure of each section is similar, starting with a topic sentence or the quote, then following the elaboration and summary of the details.
Content and Features
The content is about pedagogy, which covers from an introduction to teachers' feedback, a reflection on grammar syllabus, discussion about cultural discourse of textbook image, classroom management of online teaching, and so on. All are from the blogger's personal experience and his reflection on his teaching, and these are further analyzed and refined to contribute to development proposals for the readers. And here are some textual features:
- the posts are always attached with related pictures and readers can infer the general content from the titles and pictures.
- the content is focused on a small topic, not extended.
- the language of writing is simple and straightaway.
Ease of use and Navigation
Blogger often post lots of hyperlinks in their posts so that readers can access the original addresses of the websites, pictures, and videos directly. Also, references to the picture used in the post, which is well-founded and theoretical.
Target Audience
There is no doubt that teachers are the primary target audience. The content of the blogs is mainly about discussions in the fields of pedagogy and teacher development. Bloggers often cite personal experiences when discussing them. We can also refer to the tags presented, which tell the critical words of the content. We can also see that there is lively audience engagement in the comment section---viewers can comment not only on bloggers, but also on each other.
Summary
After reading this blog, I have a general idea of the main writing and structure of the blog. Sections and headings are structured clearly, hyperlinks allow readers to get more information, and titles and images should be conclusive and relevant and allow readers to get general information. In addition, the language should be easy to understand and not academic. To get more information, we can not only explore the links given by bloggers but also those from comments. ReplyDeleteI'm not sure whether it's an error in my side or not. When I look for the comment section, it's just written in another language other than English. I think it would be difficult for some readers to find it.
